I discovered there are red stripes in the American Flag!

As part of his secret plot to sell as many copies of Richard Hofstadter’s books as possible, Glenn Beck gave the CPAC keynote address. The highlight: his attacks on Teddy Roosevelt for believing that gaining wealth should “represent benefit to the community.”

I always thought TR a commie/fascist/nazi/liberal/blue meanie. Now I know for sure. The man who once called Thomas Paine a “filthy little atheist” is now officially too left-wing for the Fox News crowd.

Also: did you know who the modern democratic party is, according to Rep. Steve King? “They are: liberals, they are progressives, they are Che Guevarians, they are Castroites, they are socialists, more enemies on this list, Gramsciites, ring anybody’s bell? Trotskyites, Maoists, Stalinists, Leninists, Marxists.”

I’m impressed! We’ve got Trotskyists and Stalinists working together! Go us! But Gramsciite? Its Gramscian, my friend. If you’re going to shamelessly red bait us, do it right, damn it!

In conclusion, I think Bob has something to say about this…

  2. Great post. I’ve always wondered how it is that so many conservative Republicans love Teddy Roosevelt, claim that he was the greatest president ever, but don’t realize that, despite his intense racism, he was one of the more progressive presidents too. Do they forget the Progressive Party? Or is that after his presidency so it doesn’t count? Even in office he was hardly the laissez-faire type.
